Tom Richards is a trombonist, pianist and composer living in Toronto. He currently writes for projects Riverrun, Engine, and The Human Rights, the Tom Richards Trio and is also part of the acclaimed Avi Granite 6. Tom is currently on faculty at the Bayview Glen School.

“Branta” is a smooth minor salsa tune composed to feature flute. It’s a very memorable yet accessible chart which is a great introduction to latin music for a young band. Other than flute melody the chart also features some fun sax section work and easy brass parts.

“Moatfield Shuffle” is a straight-ahead swinger with solos for horns and rhythm section. The melody is designed to place emphasis on basic rhythm reading skills, with subtle variations to keep things interesting.

"Summer on my Mind" is a relaxed swing tune, evoking the easy days of summer. The trumpet and saxophone sections carry the tuneful melody while the rhythm section alternates between "two-feel" and "four-feel". The saxes and trombones have featured soli sections, and there are written solos (with chord changes) for alto/tenor, piano, bass, and drums.
