Terry Promane

Terry Promane is an Associate Professor and Jazz Coordinator at the University of Toronto. A trombone, bass trombone and tuba player, Terry maintains a very active performing career in the theatres, recording studios and jazz clubs. He is a member of many of Toronto’s most prestigious jazz groups, including the Mike Murley Septet; the John MacLeod Big Band; the Paul Read Orchestra; the Kirk MacDonald Jazz Orchestra; Dave Young/Terry Promane Sextet/Octet/Big Band and the Carn Davidson 9. Many of these groups feature Terry’s original compositions and arrangements.A first-call session player, Terry can be heard on many jingles, film scores, and on the concert stage, performing with Holly Cole, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles, Mel Torme, Natalie Cole. Career highlights include, the Rob McConnell Tentet, the Boss Brass Kenny Wheeler, Bill Holman, Maria Schneider, Vince Mendoza. Terry Promane was twice named Jazz Trombonist of the Year by Jazz Report Magazine, and nominated three years in a row by the National Jazz Awards as Trombonist of the Year and Arranger of the Year. Other awards include 2 JUNO Awards as a member of the John MacLeod Big Band, The Rob McConnell Tentet and 2 JUNO nominations as a member of the Mike Murley Septet and the Kirk MacDonald Jazz Orchestra.
