Michael Kundakcioglu

Saxophonist and pianist, Michael is a graduate of the Junior Special Advanced Program at the Yamaha Music School in Toronto. Currently a student at John G. Althouse Middle school in Toronto, Michael enjoys playing lead alto and singing with the award winning stage band, concert bands, chamber, concert and jazz choirs. Michael debuted his composition “Funk Out” with the Etobicoke Youth Stage Band with great success at the Palais Royale in Toronto in 2009.When Michael is not composing, performing or practicing you can find him at a track racing high speed karts. Michael’s unwavering life long ambition is to become a professional musician and race car driver.

Michael says: "Funk Out is fun tune based on the early funk sounds of the 1960’s and ‘70’s. It features the lead alto sax in the rubato ballad opening section and gives the lead alto the opportunity to improvise over the chord changes at letter D. Check out the challenging syncopated sections which feature the horns trading rhythms reminiscent of Tower of Power."
